St. Catherine’s Church

Driving to Chernigov along Kiev road the first thing you see approaching Chernigov is a church. The view is very nice – the church emerging suddenly at the end of the road, the white beauty in the day light and shining at night. The church was built to commemorate the brave Chernigov regiment who helped Moscow king to storm Turkish fortress Azov in 1696. Chernigov regiment showed everyone how brave warriors should be. To honor these people headed by a famous colonel Yakov Lizogub the church was built.
